Justin Nham, Jasmine Chiang a.k.a. “The Sandfly Kids”
Jasmine, Thomas and Justin are undergraduate students that have done some field work looking for sandflies, the insect vector of leishmaniasis, in the Ithaca area. This work will resume in the spring. During the cold months of winter, they are working in identifying possible pathogenic agents in a different insect, Culicoides spp., that could potentially transmit a wide array of viruses, as well as parasitic nematodes.
